A beautiful Success Story

"Geraldine (Geri) is 77 years young and has been a DayBreak client since February of 2020. She and her husband (Barry) consented for services with the DayBreak team after her husband was hospitalized for having difficulties with his breathing.

Their Case Manager (Coronda Carter) and Program Manager (Stefanie Stevens) of the Rapid Response Case Management Program was able to support them with resources in an effort to resolve their housing issues (eg. foreclosure/refinance, home repairs, cleaning(s), and home assessment through DayBreak’s Fall Prevention Program). Geri also receives support from the Caring for the Caregiver Program with weekly Comfort Calls with Karen Kelleher (Family Caregiver Support Coordinator). While receiving services through DayBreak, Barry was diagnosed with having cancer in the summer of 2020 and started going to treatment(s) soon after his diagnosis. Unfortunately, even with treatment(s), Barry’s health declined and he passed away in January of this year.

Geri is still grieving the loss of her husband and is adjusting to life without Barry. She has shared with Case Manager Carter how humbled and grateful she is to have received such love and care from the DayBreak Team.

Geri has expressed that,

"This is the kindest thing that has ever happened to me, and I would like to pay it forward to someone else through volunteering or spreading the word on how DayBreak has supported me in a time of need!".
